Abba Kyari Seeks Fresh Bail, Says Kuje Prison Threatens His Safety

Following recent terror attack on the Kuje Correctional facility in Abuja, the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Abba Kyari has filed a fresh application, seeking bail pending his trial.

In a supportive affidavit, Kyari argued that the Kuje  Correctional facility was a threat to his life as some of the inmates in the facility were suspects he arrested while on police active service.

DIPLOMATIC DIARY reports that KKyari, who is facing drug trafficking charges is currently remanded at the Kuje Correctional facility.

Justice Emeka Nwite has fixed Wednesday to hear the bail application.

Three other police officers, who are conspirators with Kyari in the alleged drug case (ACP Sunday J. Ubia, Insp. Simon Agirigba and Insp. John Nuhu) , also prayed the court to grant them bail on security grounds.

However, the 3rd defendant, Bawa James, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, did not join them in the application.

Kyari’s counsel, Ikpeazu, said his client’s fresh application became necessary, considering the nature of assignments he undertook while performing his duties as a police officer.

Ikpeazu submitted that some of the inmates on remand at the Kuje Correctional facility were people that Kyari’s team at the Police IRT, made their arrest possible.
