The Oyo State House of Assembly has impeached the deputy governor of the State, Rauf Aderemi Olaniyan.
Olaniyan was impeached on Monday around 11:30 am by the lawmakers.
His impeachment followed lawmakers’ adoption at plenary on Monday, the report of a seven-man panel constituted by the chief judge of the State to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against the deputy governor.
The panel report was read by the Majority Leader of the House, Sanjo Adedoyin from Ogbomoso.
The panel indicted Olaniyan of all allegations levelled against him.
The Assembly approved Olaniyan’s removal from office leaning on section 188(9) of the 1999 constitution (as amended).
Olaniyan was elected in 2019 on a joint ticket with the current Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) until his recent defection to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
