The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ademola Adeleke has been declared as winner of the Osun State governorship election.
DIPLOMATIC DIARY reports that the gubernatorial election, held across 3,763 polling units on Saturday, 16th July, 2022.
Declaring the winner, Vice Chancellor, University of Lagos, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, who is the Returning Officer for the election, said Adeleke polled a total of 403, 371 votes to win the election.
His closest rival and incumbent governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gboyega Oyetola polled 375, 027 votes.
Also, the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Yussuff Sulaimon Lasun, polled 2,729.
The PDP won 17 of the 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the Osun State, the APC however, won in the remaining 13 LGAs.

The parties and their candidates included: Akinade Akanmu Ogunbiyi, representing the Accord Party; the African Action Congress (AAC) candidate is Awojide Peter Segun; Kehinde Munirudeen Olumuyiwa A Atanda is bearing the flag of the Action Democratic Party (ADP); Adegboyega Isiaka Oyetola for the All Progressives Congress (APC); the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presented Awoyemi Oluwatayo Lukuman; Adebayo Adeolu Elisha for the All Peoples Party (APP); Adeleke Adesoji Masilo Aderemi Adedapo for the Boot Party; Yussuff Sulaimon Lasun, Labour Party (LP); Rasaq Oyelami Saliu for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP); National Rescue Movement (NRM) has Abede Adetona Samuel as its flagbearer; the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has Adeleke Ademola Jackson Nurudeen as its flagbearer; the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has Ayowole Olubusuyi Adedeji; Social Democratic Party (SDP) has Omigbodun Oyegoke Akinrinola; Young Progressives Party (YPP) has Ademola Bayonle Adeseye; and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has Adesuyi John Olufemi.
