FCTA Directs Abuja Public, Private Schools To Proceed On Vacation

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Education Secretariat has ordered owners of private schools and heads of public institutions to shut down operations Wednesday, July 27.

The  Education Secretariat In a two-paragraph statement, said: “FCT Education Secretariat wishes to inform parents and guardians that the 2021/2022 academic calendar for FCT schools will come to an end on Wednesday, July 27th, 2022.

“All parents and guardians should please take note and ensure their wards are conveyed home in good time from the School premises.”

Although, the statement did not connect the closure to recent  security issues  in the FCT, DIPLOMATIC DIARY has learnt that the move is to prevent any possible attack or abduction of students.

On Monday, the Federal Ministry of Education asked Principals of all Federal Government Colleges (FGCs) otherwise known as Unity Schools to beef-up security in their respective colleges to forestall any form of breakdown of law and order.

It suggested to the principals liaise with the police and security agencies in their locations, as well as in-house school security outfits and other measures to protect their schools.

The suggestion was, perhaps, in response to the recent report of a security breach at the Federal Government College (FGC), Kwali, Abuja, at the weekend, which has been directed to close down and students vacated immediately.
