FG Releases Circular On 65 Years Retirement Age For Teachers

The Federal Government has released a circular on the 65 years retirement age or 40 years of service for teachers as approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Dated June 23, 2022 and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, David Adejo,  the circular stated that the approval is for all education officers, irrespective of posting, while emphasising chalk-to-hand teachers.

Although, the circular was silent if the directive applied to teachers at both federal and states levels, it however stated that henceforth, boundaries in the implementation of the harmonised policy for education officers and teachers are removed.

It urged  those not interested in the elongation service to apply for retirement, in line with extant public service rules.

The circular notes that the document supercedes earlier releases.
