The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has declared the governorship election held last Saturday in Adamawa State inconclusive.

INEC collation officer, Prof Muhammed Mele of the University of Maiduguri, Borno, said the decision was due to the margin of votes recorded in the election by the contestants.

According to Prof Mele, a winner could not be declared because the number of collected PVCs at over 37,000 in places where results were cancelled is more than the margin of lead for Governor Ahmadu Fintiri over his challenger Aishatu Ahmed.

The incurbent governor, Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party took the lead with over 31,000 votes based on official results announced by the collation officer.

Fintiri scored 421,524 against Mrs Ahmed’s 390,275, leaving a margin of 31,249.

INEC also said 37,016 PVCs were collected in the areas affected.
