Lawal Replaces Olaniyan As Oyo Deputy Governor

The Oyo State House of Assembly  has approved the appointment of Adebayo Lawal as the new Deputy Governor following the impeachment of Rauf Olaniyan.

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde in a letter to the lawmakers which was presented at the plenary on Monday, nominated Lawal as replacement to Olaniyan.

Defending the nomination of Lawal, the House Majority Leader, Sanjo Adedoyin, said that the nomination should be favourably considered, approved and adopt in view of his antecedents in contributing to the progress of the state.

The Speaker of the House, Adebo Ogundoyin had put the nomination to a voice vote,  and unanimously received a “yes” response. 

DIPLOMATIC DIARY earlier reported that Olaniyan had been impeached following the lawmakers’ consideration and the recommendation of the seven-man panel of inquiry set up by the Chief Judge, Munta Abimbola to investigate him over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.

Prior to his appointment, Lawal who hails from Kisi in Irepo Local Government area, was the Chairman of the State Housing Corporation, and had also served as the state Attorney-General.

Lawal has earlier be nominated  by Makinde as  running mate for the 2023 governorship election.
