Muslim-Muslim Ticket:  Omo-Agege’s Aide, Daniel Bwala Resigns From APC

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Daniel Bwala has resigned from the party, to protest the decision of a Muslim-Muslim ticket ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

Bwala is a Special Adviser on Legal and Constitutional Matters to the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege.

DIPLOMATIC DIARY reports that Bwala’s resignation came less than 12 hours after the presidential candidate of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed  Tinubu announced former Borno governor, Kashim Shettima, a Muslim from the Northeastern part of Nigeria, as his running mate.

Recall that there has been concerns about a Muslim-Muslim ticket even before Tinubu confirmed Shettima as APC Vice-Presidential Candidate for the 2023 presidential election.

Defending his choice on Sunday, Tinubu said despite concerns about religion, he chose Shettima because he would bring the best to Nigerians from different regions and religion, adding that he possessed one of the best credentials for the election.

Following the development, Bwala announced his resignation from the APC on Sunday night.

Bwala said,  the efforts and energy of the ruling party should be in uniting Nigerians at such a time and not otherwise.

“Tonight I officially resigned my membership of @OfficialAPCNg on principles and conviction that I hold so dear. At this time of our national existence, our efforts and energy should gravitate towards uniting our people

“Asiwaju has announced Kashim Shetima as his running mate. Kwankwaso is planning to announce a Pentecostal Bishop as his running mate. Interesting times lie ahead”, Bwala tweeted.
