The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has confirmed that  Nigeria’s  Minister of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, is currently a serving corps member.

Despite her ministerial role under President Tinubu’s cabinet, the NYSC verified her participation in the one-year youth service scheme. 

The Director of Press and Public Relations at NYSC headquarters, Eddy Megwa, confirmed her status. Musawa’s primary assignment is reportedly at a law firm in Abuja. 

“The details of the NYSC posting of Hannatu Musawa are as follows: FC/23A/505 and Posted to Onyilokwu Onyilowa and company Suit number undisclosed purposely (paint house) old Banex Plaza”, Rights advocacy group, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), disclosed.

While  questioning  her dual responsibilities, HURIWA expressed concern over the kind of scrutiny being conducted by the Department of State Services (DSS), so much that it wasn’t disclosed that Musawa was a serving Youth Corps member.

The Rights group alleged that Musawa abandoned her previous NYSC stint in Ebonyi state, only to complete it later when mobilised this year.

HURIWA noted that in 2020, the Ahmed Lawan-led 9th Senate rejected Musawa’s nomination by former President Muhammadu Buhari as the Commissioner representing the North West at the National Pension Commission (PENCOM), saying, “Her failure to submit her National Youth Service (NYSC) certificate was cited as reason for her rejection”.
