The Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and incumbent governor of Osun state, Gboyega Oyeola, has won Ward 8, unit 1, Isare Ifofin, Ilesa East Local Government Area, in Saturday’s election.

The governor secured 164 votes to beat his closest rival, Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 134 votes, to emerged winner of Ward 8, unit 1, the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola’s polling unit.

Meanwhile, Aregbesola boycotted Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.

Aregbesola, a two term governor of Osun, is the predecessor of Oyetola.

The Minister had publicly moved against the second-term ambition of Governor Oyetola

He had endorsed the former Secretary to the State Government, Moshood Adeoti, who later lost to Oyetola at the APC governorship primary election held on February 19.

DIPLOMATIC DIARY learnt that the minister was in Lagos State on Thursday before travelling to Abuja on Friday.

When contacted, Aregbesola’s media adviser, Sola Fasure, confirmed the minister’s absence, adding that he travelled abroad to attend a conference.
