The Cross River State Police Command on Friday said its tactical team has rescued the Arthur Jarvis University (AJU) student, who was kidnapped by some youths from Akwa Ibom on Tuesday in Akpabuyo LGA of the state .

The school which is located, 18 kilometers from Calabar, the state capital is the first private University in the state and has almost rounded off its session billed for Friday before the ugly incident happened.

The operation was carried out by a crack team of policemen following directives of the Commissioner of Police Cross River State, CP Aminu Alhassan.

According to a top security source, the operation took the tactical unit into the hideout of the hoodlums in Akpabuyo, where the victim was rescued at about 11pm on Thursday night.

The source said, some of the suspects were neutralised while one was arrested. He added that the victim is receiving treatment.

Spokespersonof the State Police Command, SP Irene Ugbo confirmed the rescue, describing the feat as a laudable breakthrough.

 “It is true, a crack team of officers combed the creeks of Akpabuyo and rescued the victim at about 11pm Thursday night”.

“It was based on the order of the Commissioner of Police CP Aminu Alhassan and we thank God that the student was rescued alive. She is recovering as she is also receiving treatment at the moment.

“This is a serious note of warning that we will not tolerate any form of criminality in any part of the state , no matter where they hide , we shall always smoke them out , no matter how long it takes.

“Every kidnapper or criminal in the state must understand that we are bringing the fight to them, we are not going to allow any person or group to carry out any nefarious activity in any part of Cross River state”, said Irene. 

On his part, the Chancellor and Founder of AJU, Sir Arthur Jarvis Archibong, thanked God for the safe return of his student while lauding the police for a job well done .

In a related development, the Bauchi State Police Command, has confirmed that a 25-year old pregnant woman, Rahila Dau, has been abducted at Gizaki Village of Lusa ward in Bogoro Local Government Area of the state.

Spokesperson of the Command, SP Ahmed Wakil, said the incident occurred on July, 16 .

Wakil said the incident was reported at Bogoro Police Division and the Commissioner of Police, has urged personnel to do everything possible to rescue the victim.

He said that th police led by the DPO, visited the scene and recovered some 5 empty shells of bullets fired by the kidnappers.

Wakil assured that  the Police were on top of the situation in ensuring that the victim was rescued unhurt.
