The race for the presidential ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has created division in the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, DIPLOMATIC DIARY reports.
Recall that the Progressives governors from the northern part of the country had on Saturday called for power shift to the South..
Sources told DIPLOMATIC DIARY that the National Chairman of the APC, Abubakar Adamu, announced the choice of Senate President Ahmad Lawan to the governors as preferred Consensus presidential candidate of the party.
According to our findings, the northern governors who are opposed to the development, are currently meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the state house Abuja, over the development.
The meeting has in attendance Governors of Kaduna Nasir El-Rufai, Kano Abdullahi Ganduje, Katsina Aminu Masari, Niger Abubakar Bello, Nasarawa, Sule Abdullahi, Zamfara, Bello Matawalle, Gombe Inuwa Yahaya, Borno, Babagana Zulum, Plateau, Simon Lalong, Kebbi, Atiku Bagudu and Yobe, Mai Mala buni.
The source further said that the NWC of the party is also divided over the choice of Ahmad Lawan.
