Presidential Primary: Northern APC  Governors Insist On Power Shift

Progressive governors from northern part of the country have restated the call for power shift.

This was part of the outcome of a meeting of the governors with President Muhammadu Buhari, held on Monday at the State House,  Abuja.

DIPLOMATIC DIARY earlier  reported that the meeting was held over the announcement of Senate President Ahmad Lawan by the National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu as preferred Consensus presidential candidate of the party.

The governors, who opposed to the development had met the president for confirmation.

Led by chairman of the Northern Governors Forum (PGF) and Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, others in attendance include the Governors of Kaduna Nasir El-Rufai, Kano Abdullahi Ganduje, Katsina Aminu Masari, Niger Abubakar Bello, Nasarawa, Sule Abdullahi, Zamfara, Bello Matawalle, Gombe Inuwa Yahaya, Borno, Babagana Zulum, Kebbi, Atiku Bagudu and Yobe, Mai Mala buni.

Briefing State House correspondents on the outcome of the meeting, Plateau State governor, Simon Lalong, said  President Buhari has not anointed any of the presidential aspirants as the flag bearer of the party.

He said President Buhari has requested the governors to have a meeting with the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to resolve the issue of consensus candidate through democratic means.

Lalong said they told the president of their decision to ensure that power returns to the South for the sake of equity and unity of the country.

He said the meeting with the NWC has been slated for 5pm this Monday.
