Return To Niger For More Talks With Military Junta – Tinubu Tells Muslim Leaders

Nigeria’s President and Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the ECOWAS, Bola Tinubu has asked the delegation of Nigerian Muslim leaders, (Ulamas), to return to the Niger Republic for more diplomatic talks with the military junta.

Tinubu gave the directive on Thursday after the Ulamas briefed him on the outcome of their last mission made on behalf of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Leader of the delegation, Sheikh Bala Lau confirmed the decision to State House correspondents on Thursday.

He said they were at the villa to brief the President on the outcome of their visit to Niger over the political situation in the country.

Recall that ECOWAS leaders had met in Abuja twice in recent times, where they had condemned the coup in Niger and had gone ahead to slam sanctions on the West African country, including a mandate to reinstate Mohammed Bazoum, failure of which they would deploy military action to restore democratic order.

The Ulammas, who are apparently opposed to war with Niger, have been trying frantically to avert a war thorn situation within the African continent.
