Scores Kidnapped As Bandits Attack Kaduna Millennium City

At least 36 persons were kidnapped when bandits attacked Keke area of New Millennium City, Kaduna on Monday night.

The attack it was gathered occurred around 9:00pm Monday night when many residents were yet to return from work.

Though men of the Millennium City Police Division were still in the area to ascertain the number of people kidnapped, Spokesperson of the Kaduna Police Command, DSP Muhammad Jalige, said he was yet to receive a brief on the incident as of press time

However, residents in the area confided about 36 persons were kidnapped. 

One of them, Maryam Sani, said: “The kidnappers came around a few minutes after 8:00 pm during the rain. So, people were not alerted early enough, because the rain was heavy. They kidnapped many people. Most of the people kidnapped were just returning home during the attack and they just ran into the bandits.”

Another resident of the area, Usman Tahir, said  the bandits operated unchallenged, moving from house to house and breaking into homes to pick their victims.

Tahir said: “Many of us were still outside when the bandits attacked because it was quite early, around 8.30 pm. They came in a large number, shooting sporadically and brandishing assault rifles

“They broke walls to gain access into people’s houses one after the other and kidnapped the occupants. As at this afternoon we realised they went away with 36 residents people. They actually abducted more than 36 but some people escaped in the process.”

Communities in millennium city have suffered similar attacks in the last two months.
