The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disowned the campaign council for Nov. 11, 2023 governorship elections in Bayelsa which has FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike as member.
The party similarly disowned the campaign councils purportedly announced by the party’s organising secretary, Suleiman Argungu for Kogi and Imo States.
All the three councils were in circulation in sections of the media on Tuesday.
Felix Morka, the party’s National Publicity Secretary in a statement on Tuesday night, said the lists being circulated did not originate from the party and should therefore be disregarded.
“The attention of the APC has been drawn to a national campaign council lists for the Nov. 11, governorship elections in Bayelsa, Kogi and Imo States in circulation in sections of the media.
“The lists are not official documents of the party and should be disregarded”, Morka said.
DIPLOMATIC DIARY reports that the purported list of campaign council for the November 11 gubernatorial election in Bayelsa state, had the name of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, as member.
In the trending list released on Tuesday, the National Organising Secretary of the APC, Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu, purportedly named Wike and other key political office holders in the party, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio as members of the campaign council while Gombe State Governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, serves as the chairman.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had earlier inaugurated a 72 man campaign Council team for the state chaired by Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, with Nyesom Wike as a member. He was however absent at the inauguration of the PDP campaign Council.
Immediate past Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, is the candidate of APC for the election while incumbent Governor Douye Diri, who is seeking reelection, is the PDP candidate.
Wike, while serving as the Governor of Rivers State, was the leader of the PDP G5 aggrieved governors who worked against the party during the 2023 presidential election.
Before then, he had differences with the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri over the governor’s alleged refusal to support his (Wike) presidential ambition during the PDP primaries last year.
Wike, who has just been rewarded by President Bola Tinubu led Government as the Minister of FCT for his support for APC during the presidential election, is said to be working against Diri.
Wike served his two terms as governor under the PDP.
